First Ladies National Historic Site

Two properties, the home of First Lady Ida Saxton McKinley and the seven-story 1895 City National Bank Building, are preserved at this site, which honors the lives and accomplishments of First Ladies throughout history. The site is managed by the National Park Serviceand operated by the National First Ladies' Library.



 The Basics


Hours:

Both the Saxton House and Education and Research Center are open by guided tour only.

Tour Hours:
Monday: No tours available. Research library is open by appointment only.
Tuesday - Saturday: Tours begin at 9:30, 10:30, 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30.

Summer Hours (June 1 - August 31):
In addition to regularly schedule hours, First Ladies National Historic Site is open on Sundays for the summer. Tours are scheduled for 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30.

All visitors should arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of their scheduled tour.

 Directions

The First Ladies National Historic Site is located in downtown Canton, Ohio.

From the South:
Follow I-77 North to the Downtown/Tuscarawas Exit. Turn right onto Tuscarawas and travel to Market Street South. Turn right onto Market Street South. Travel through two lights and immediately after the 2nd light is the site's parking on the right hand side.

From the North
Follow I-77 South to the Downtown/Tuscarawas Exit. Go through light at exit ramp. Go straight at second light. The third light is Tuscarawas. Turn left onto Tuscarawas and follow to Market Street South. Turn right onto Market Street South. Travel through two lights and immediately after the 2nd light is the site's gated parking on the right hand side.


 Climate
 

The weather at First Ladies National Historic Site is typical of Northeastern Ohio: four distinct seasons offering something for everyone. Winter is cold, cloudy, and sometimes snowy. Spring brings rain and warming temperatures. Summer is often hot and humid, with frequent thunderstorms and hazy skies. Fall offers some relief from the heat, as nights cool.

Reservations required for groups, and highly recommended for everyone.
