Sprawling for a hundred mile stretch along the shore of Lake Erie, the Cleveland metro area is clearly a big urban center, but with little effort visitors will find miles of city park trails, lake-side beaches and a well-rounded assortment of museums and sporting events.
Charles Mill Dam was constructed in 1935-36 and is primarily for flood control but also for recreation, fish and wildlife management. Extensive recreation facilities are operated by the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. In Mansfield, see the Kingwood Center formal gardens in bloom. April-October.The Day Use Area below the dam is a peaceful, scenic place to picnic with grills, a small playground and restrooms. The restrooms are open on a seasonal basis (May-September). Fishing is a popular activity in this area. The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District administers the recreation facilities on the lake behind the dam through their facilities at Charles Mill Lake Park. They host an annual classic car show in early September.

Basic Directions
Charles Mill Lake is located on the Black Fork of the Mohican River. The Dam is located approximately 3 miles east of I-71. At I-71 take US 30 east almost 1 mile to State Route 603. Then take State Route 603 south about 2 miles to dam.
