Stearns Homestead Is A 48-acre Site Located In The Heart Of Parma, Ohio. When Purchased By The City Of Parma, The Gibbs Farm (as It Was Known Then) Was The Last Remaining Working Farm In Parma. The Farm Is Operated By The Parma Area Historical Society As An Educational And Historic Farm. Two Farmhouse Museums, Historic Barn, & Many Farm Animals Will Delight Visitors. The Stearns Farmhouse Was Built By Lyman Stearns, An Early Settler In The Western Reserve. The Stearns Farmhouse Is Representative Of The Greek Revival Style Of Architecture Popular In This Region Prior To The Civil War. The Yankee-style Barn Predates The House. Earl C. Gibbs Bought The Farm And Built The Newer House In 1920. The Family Continued To Farm There Through The 1970s. The City Of Parma Purchased The Property From The Gibbs Family In 1980 To Preserve This Unique Remnant Of Parma's Rural Heritage.The Farm Was Placed On The National Register Of Historic Places In 1981, And An Ohio Historical Marker Was Erected In 2001. Stearns Homestead Is A Member Of The Ohio Association Of Historical Societies & Museums, & The Parma Chamber Of Commerce. Open May 15 To Mid-October, Saturday & Sunday 12-4p.m. Special Events & Tours Scheduled Or By Arrangement. Some Events With Special Hours Listed.All Proceeds From Events Held At Stearns Homestead Are Used To Maintain The Historical Farm. The PAHS Depends On Membership Dues, Donations, And Volunteers To Help In The Effort To Preserve The History Of Parma.
