Toledo, Ohio Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Toledo is a substantial sized city with over 300,000 residents. Serving as one of the main ports in Ohio for Lake Erie, Toledo has a bustling waterfront and is in a desirable location, close to Michigan and Indiana making it easy to explore regions outside Ohio. Recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, Toledo's Old West End has some of the most well preserved victorian homes in the United States, which gives a quaint, old world feel to the area. The Maumee River is popular throughout Toledo and the surrounding regions for Walleye fishing, drawing in thousands of fisherman each year. The S.S. Willis B. Boyer is docked in Toledo, one of the largest freighters in history to cruise the Great Lakes.

One of the best art museums in Ohio is the Toledo Museum of Art housing works by Picasso, Monet and Matisse, and the zoo is notable for its aviary, aquarium, science center and architecture. The Docks are a cluster of restaurants along the water, which are well liked by locals and offering an eclectic cuisine for every palette. In downtown Toledo, the Erie Street Market also has interesting dining options as well as shopping and a farmer's market.

I-80 and I-90 run east/west through Toledo and continue on to Cleveland, nearly two hours east, while I-75 runs north/south. Toledo is about 70 miles from the Indiana state line and about 60 miles from Detroit, Michigan going north.
