About an hour southeast of Cleveland, Canton, Ohio is home to a population of just over 80,000. Canton has several parks and recreational areas in the vicinity and football is very popular among all ages in this Ohio town.
Canton has declared itself the golf capital of Ohio, and golf, combined with hiking or a trip to the lake at Silver Park, is a relaxing way to spend a day while traveling. Camping is available at Hillside Park, while Clay's Park Resort in North Lawrence is a popular water park with slides, paddleboats and miniature golf. Most notable in Canton, is the famous Pro Football Hall of Fame, drawing in thousands of visitors each year, as well as the President William McKinley Memorial Site, which includes a memorial, a museum and planetarium.
Nearby, Canal Fulton is a preserved Ohio canal town that hosts an annual fair in the woods called Yankee Peddler Days. For three weekends in September, artisans and crafters from all over come to sell their wares and show off their trade.
I-77 runs north/south through Canton, while U.S. 30 runs east/west. Canton is located about 20 miles south of Akron, 58 miles southeast of Cleveland, and 95 miles west of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
