Saginaw has a population of around 61,000 residents and was once primarily an agricultural center. Today Saginaw, with its location along the Saginaw River boasts a number of nature preserves in and just outside the city.

A notable attraction in Saginaw is the Awa Saginaw An, an authentic Japanese teahouse. One of only five in the U.S. where visitors can watch a real tea ceremony performance, this teahouse was designed to look like a Zen monastery.

Nature is big is Saginaw with the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge just south of the city, and the Green Point Environmental Learning Center. The wildlife refuge has 9,000 acres of land with hundreds of bird and animal species as its inhabitants. Fisherman flock to Saginaw for its walleye fishing in the Saginaw River, and there is even a local competition every January to see who can catch the biggest fish.

Saginaw also features the Crow Island State Game Area along the Saginaw River, and the Price Nature Center which is a prime location for hiking. There is a children's zoo, an art museum and the city even has its own little island where concerts and special events are held.

Saginaw is located in central Michigan just south of Bay City and southeast of Midland.
